OMA Quarterly
2009 Volume 2Contents Why OMA
By Seth Newberry, General Manager, Open Mobile Alliance Ltd.
Every year, OMA members re-confirm their interest in OMA's work by renewing their membership. Certainly, in 2009, the economy has taken its toll on many standards and specification setting organizations, including OMA. However, OMA's message for 2009 is one of continuity.
The core contributors to OMA specifications continue to support our specification work and have renewed their membership for the year. Twenty-two of the twenty-three most active companies (as measured by delegation size) renewed their memberships in 2009—with over 200 total members currently participating at one of OMA's four membership levels. These same twenty-two companies have contributed the bulk of the technical contributions made to OMA specifications from 2008 through to the current date.
On a global basis, regional distribution of the core membership has also remained stable.
• Asia Pacific — 45% • Europe — 41% • Americas — 14%
This regional membership trend means that the wider industry can expect the same high level of technical work from OMA with the same level of global interoperability.
As OMA prepares for its 2010 membership renewal effort, our members continue their commitment to wide ranging technical contributions. OMA members and the converging mobile industry can rely on continued progress towards OMA's vision of data access on any device, across any network in any region of the world.
