OMA LwM2M v1.2.1 Release

Latest Release

Latest News from OMASpecWorks ...

We have published a revision of LwM2M v1.2!

In December 2020, we published LwM2M v1.2, which included a range of new features. Since then, we received developer feedback – both from member companies and from the open source community through our Github issue tracker, see Issues. As a result of all this feedback, we have clarified the specification text and we are happy to announce the publication of LwM2M v1.2.1 - the revision of LwM2M v1.2.

LwM2M in ENISA’s Secure Supply Chain for IoT

ENISA collaborates with OMA LwM2M

Concerns with supply chain security have steadily increased over the past several years. Economics has “shrunk” the world and most supply chains now include, at some point, components (hardware/software) that are sourced from various suppliers around the globe. Governments are no longer the only ones worried about their critical infrastructure – news coverage of hacks and attacks exploiting component vulnerabilities have increased awareness of this threat, spreading it into every industry sector. No industry is more acutely aware of the cybersecurity risks than the information and communications technology (ICT) sector.

LwM2M in ENISA’s Secure Supply Chain for IoT V1.0

Release of ENISA-LwM2M Whitepaper

Formed in 2002, the Open Mobile Alliance (OMA) combined several industry fora working on mobile application protocols. It is a standard developing organization, which develops interoperable protocols. In late 2017, OMA merged with the IPSO Alliance to form a new organization called OMA SpecWorks. Within OMA SpecWorks the technical work is conducted in several working groups. One of those groups develops the Lightweight Machine-to-Machine (LwM2M) protocol to manage Internet of Things (IoT) devices over their entire lifecycle.

LwM2M v1.2 is now available!

Latest LwM2M Protocol version

The standardization work on the LwM2M v1.2 specification has been completed and the specification bundle is now available for public download.Originally proposed in 2012, LwM2M v1.0 was finally published in early 2017 after comprehensive research with developers across multiple industries and application areas. The original standard was a compelling solution for device lifecycle management with focus on constrained IoT devices. With LwM2M adoption observed across a broader range of device types and the benefit of feedback from real use cases, releases including v1.0.1 and v1.0.2 were published to keep up with ever increasing demand and expansion of LwM2M use. With v1.1 published in 2018, OMA SpecWorks increased the functionality of the protocol by adding support for Cellular IoT, LoRaWAN as well as in enterprise networks with CoAP over TCP/TLS.
